It is always our goal to save your natural teeth, but there are times when this treatment becomes necessary. Tooth extraction involves removing the tooth from its socket in the bone. Some of the reasons this is necessary include:
- Tooth Decay
- Teeth damaged by trauma
- Extra teeth that block the other teeth from coming in
- Lack of space in the mouth
- Advanced periodontal disease
- Preparation for orthodontic treatment
When you visit the office of Fairview Dental, our team will examine the state of your dental health and determine the best course of treatment for you. If tooth extraction looks like the best option, the dentist will take an X-ray of the area to determine the best way to remove the tooth. When the procedure begins, an anesthetic or another form of sedation is administered to the patient. The tooth is removed from its socket using dental instruments, and the site is cleaned thoroughly. A piece of gauze is placed at the extraction site to help control bleeding. Once the procedure is completed, aftercare instructions will be given to the patient.
